Full Moon in Capricorn | June 24, 2021

Full Moon at 3° of Capricorn helps us get clear and figure out exactly wtf has been going on underneath all the fog.

After such a foggy, murky, and confusing eclipse season, this Full Moon in Capricorn feels extremely clarifying and powerful. Mercury has started to move forward again in the sky, and the moon's illumination is helping us start to see clearly in the night. And we've just undergone a Venus opposite Pluto that draws a lot of attention to the Cancer-Capricorn axis of your birth chart.

Ruled by Saturn at 13° Aquarius, the tone of this moon is somber, sober, serious. In contrast to the Sun in Cancer, which highlights our need to connect and create security through community and togetherness, Saturn stands alone. Saturn is a cold and dry planet — it is driven towards separation, isolation, and individuality. Saturn asks us to go it alone, one step at a time. Saturn is the slow march of time, the planet associated with age, maturity, and death.

The Full in Capricorn helps us to get extremely clear on what exactly is going on in our lives. It helps us see the situation for what it is — the rose-colored glasses from the Venus trine Neptune earlier this week have been replaced by the cold light of day. If we've been in denial, this might be a rude wake-up call. But the fact is, it's only once you fully understand wtf is going on that you can actually deal with it. This Full Moon illuminates the practice realities of our situation and the limits we need to work within. These are our personal limits — our energy levels, our exhaustion. These are time limits — there are only so many hours in a day!

We often underestimate the amount of energy or time something takes & over-estimate our abilities. Saturn wants you to clearly articulate when we need to readjust or change our commitments. "Sorry, I am going to need more time." "I thought I was going to have the energy to do that, but I misjudged and I need to cancel." "I don't have time for that right now." There is maturity in communicating your limits & practical realities. There is maturity in communicating those boundaries to others. And there is maturity in sticking to those boundaries despite worries about letting someone down.

And it also invites us to consider our priorities: it's important to me? What do I need to feel good? What practices and rituals are non-negotiable? Saturn understands that there is only so much of you to go around. Saturn understands that you need to say "no" to many things, to say "yes" to what you REALLY want.

One of the most important things we can do is be honest with ourselves about our limits and capacities — and then communicate those truths with others. It is extremely vulnerable to "let someone down" or "disappoint" others. We have been conditioned to please, taught that accommodating other people's needs is the most important. And while obviously there is a role for kindness, compassion, and empathy, don't we also deserve to treat ourselves with that same kindness?

Jupiter is currently at 2° Pisces, freshly stationed retrograde. Jupiter has a special relationship to the sign of Cancer — it’s one of the signs that Jupiter loves to be in, and while in Pisces, Jupiter forms a superior trine to Cancer. Jupiter has a lot of power to support the planets (Venus and the Sun) in Cancer.

It is very scary and vulnerable to state your needs to others and to ask for more time, especially if you’ve been socialized to always prioritize other people’s needs. But with Jupiter in Pisces, I think it’s likely that your needs will be met with more graciousness and support than you expect. Jupiter often represents teachers, mentors, and the people in our lives who give us guidance and support. Maybe this looks like a boss who is extremely supportive when you explain you can’t meet a deadline. Maybe this a friend who is totally understanding when you bail on your plans. During this Full Moon and over the next few days, notice who is supportive and generous when you ask for help, and where you feel too afraid or shamed to be authentic — this is VERY useful information to have.

Saturn is a planet associated with fear — and fear is a very important emotion! It gives us a lot of information about what’s important to us and what is happening inside of us. It’s in facing our fears —acknowledging them, giving ourselves the support we need, but doing the scary thing anyway — that we can truly grow and expand.

This Full Moon happens on the backdrop of an intense opposition between Venus in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn at 25°. This adds extra emphasis on the Cancer and Capricorn axis of our chart this month. Venus opposite Pluto is a transit that highlights the power dynamic with our relationships, connections, and partnerships. There might be a struggle for power within a relationship or some kind of underlying tension that suddenly becomes extremely loud and obvious. There might be a cathartic breakthrough, or moment of revelation (think: getting into a fight with your partner and then saying something in the heat of the moment that you didn’t even realize was true until just then).

Venus opposite Pluto can also bring up themes of obsession and compulsion. Where do you feel an extreme desire for something? And where do feel the need to reject something? So often, we base our own identities based on what we’re against: “I’m an anti-racist, anti-capitalist.” During the Venus-Pluto opposition, watch out for the impulse to reject something because it makes you feel more established in your identity.

The Venus-Pluto opposition heavily tones the Full Moon in Capricorn. The themes coming up for you around responsibility, sovereignty and self-control are likely to be tinged by the theme of power dynamics in your personal relationships. Tonight and for the next few days, notice what messages are coming up for you around your limitations and boundaries, especially re: your relationships. What practical things can you do to create more space in your life for your priorities? What responsibilities can you delegate? Where are you pouring from an empty cup? What practical and tangible things can you do to ensure you get more rest?
